It’s easy!

Just check the box on your Idaho tax return designating a portion of your refund to the Opportunity Scholarship. Your donation will help hundreds of Idahoans in their quest for post-secondary education.Higher education leads to better jobs, a stronger economy and a more viable citizenry. Everyone benefits from education. Donations are needed now more than ever. Give a fellow Idahoan the Opportunity to better themselves and their community through education.

Please follow these two easy steps to ensure you have accurately applied for the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship:

  1. Fill out the FAFSA by or before March 1 (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

  2. Complete the online Idaho Opportunity Scholarship Application no later than March 1, 2010

The demand for a well qualified, well educated workforce was just one of the driving forces behind the creation of Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter’s "Opportunity Scholarship." This scholarship is designed to be a last dollars mechanism; meaning that a student must apply for federal financial aid and have a self or family contribution element before they would be eligible for the Opportunity Scholarship.

Eligibility:

To qualify applicants must:

  • Be an Idaho resident

  • Be a graduate from an Idaho high school or its equivalent (GED from Idaho)

  • Apply for Federal Financial Aid, FAFSA, prior to March 1 of each year at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

  • Accept all federal grant aid that is made available

  • Enroll as a full-time undergraduate student at an eligible Idaho college or university, and maintain satisfactory academic progress for financial aid purposes at their institution. See program rules for more details.
